Why does religion seem to dominate debates on stem cell research, abortion and homosexuality ?
O-BAMA ! O-EIGHT ! O-YEAH ! asked:
Honestly, why can’t people have a meaningful and civil conversation on those issues without making their religions a priority ? we’re more likely to hear stories about religious groups protesting against abortion, stem cell research, and homosexuality than we are to hear stories about homosexuals being targets of **** crimes. Why can’t we have conversations based on reason or common sense on these issues ? After all we’re all responsible for our on lives, and we’re the ones who at the end of the day make choices for ourselves. God don’t make choices for us, we do !

Most of these topics are often within the religious realm because they are deemed to be issues of ethics and morality.
because they scream louder and make a bigger fuss.
exactly!! it’s called separation of church and state. our former presidents said that religion and politics shouldn’t be together and what r we doing?????
These issues involve the value of human life, ethics and morals. Value for human life, ethics and morals are not part of nature but are either given to us by God or something invented by man. If there is no God then you are only as valuable as someone decides you are. In our soicety we value most what is beutyfull and who is the richest, if you are neither then you don’t have much value and therefore it’s O.K. to hurt you, steal from you, lie to you or kill you, after all you don’t matter. People of religion have this silly notion that everyone matters, the unborn child, the ********** who they believe is living in sin; and those yet to be created by stem cell research. Silly isn’t it that religions believe that the poor, the ill, the vunerable should be protected. After all what can they contribute to society? Who will stand up for you if you don’t become an important and valued member of society?
In a perfect world it would be easy to separate church and state.
But there always seem to be overlapping issues.
The Bible says “You should not murder” (Ex. 20:13 NWT)
So, should a Christian become a police officer knowing they may be put in a situation where they may need to kill someone? And as a Christian can you support war?
So it gets tricky but as a Christian I realize I am responsible for my conduct.
I am anti abortion so I will never have one!!!!
No, seriously though, I am responsible for my conduct.
If I see someone participating in dangerous behavior I will let them know my opinion but I can not do anymore than that.
if a woman is wearing her skirt too short for my taste, I look away.
That’s America not anywhere else.
Guess what, if you didn’t kno this before , you do now – people base their entire lives on their beliefs so when they’re asked for their opinion their reply is what they’ve been taught to be right. People’s common sense rides with their religious beliefs and they’re going to think and act according to that.
