What possible objection could this administration have with stem cell research?

stem cell research
nowyermessingwithasonofabitch asked:

Adult stem cells are massively promising, and present in various organs in all of us.
Embryonic stem cells are even more promising, and – contrary to popular belief, are NOT harvested from aborted fetuses that look like little tiny people.
Nope.
They are taken from eggs fertilized in vitro in clinics, then donated for research purposes by consenting donors.
A single blastocyst (3-4 day old hollow ball of cells) contains enough stem cells to generate millions of undifferentiated stem cells after a few short months of culturing. Those millions of stem cells are capable of differientiating into a variety of adult cells and are, so far, one of the most promising treatments we have found for Parkinsons, spinal injury, stroke and a multitude of other deseases and injuries.
So
what’s the harm?
WTF anjelcake?
someone is being selfish by having a stroke or developing parkinsons?
Retarded much?

The problem is that the US government is hypocritical.

First off, they believe that stem cell research is immoral and against God and Christian science.

Secondly, they believe that the life of a fetus has a higher value than that of a person who is suffering from a host of maladies. (But when that baby is born…? The government washes its hands of it, and the mother as well.)

They think that fetuses somehow feel “pain”. (Including the ones who are stillborn or have been aborted and kept frozen.)

And so the US government has put severe restrictions on stem-cell research–allowing only *limited* use. (But even then, the lines allowed have a limited shelf-life. If they aren’t used within a specific time frame…?)

Because you were a ball of cells once upon a time too.

Well, I still believe that an egg fertilized whether in vitro, or in the womb, is still life. My opinion of that will not change, as I’m sure your opinion will not change on what you believe to be true.

I am just answering the question you asked , not trying to change your views.

one thing i know:
stem cells research will not bring happiness.
ciao

Well, I confess that I am not up to date on stem cell research. I don’t think anyone would be objecting to it if they did not believe that it kills an individual human life. Whether you agree or disagree, there are many people (and I guess I’m one of them) who believe that human life begins at conception and that once it does begin, no single person should be arbitrarily permitted to end it.

All of human life is a developmental process. The same is true whether you’re in high school, or newly fertilized in a test tube (or whatever they use). We’re just all in different stages of our development. And while not all of us have developed to the stage of being able to communicate our wishes to others, still we all require the same essential elements to continue to develop: appropriate nourishment, appropriate shelter, and time. These are the same things that the unborn require too…appropriate nourishment, appropriate shelter, and time.

However, like I said, I really don’t understand everything about the stem cell debate. I thouht that I heard that it was possible to use cells from umbilical cords, or other sources that don’t require the killing of a human life. If that is so, then what’s the hold up? Shouldn’t we be pursuing those avenues instead of arguing? What is the real issue here?

looooool @ anjelcake.

owned. so hard. hahahaha.

yeah, stupid fcking theologians are forced to identify the beginning of the human immortal soul with conception. That single-celled thing is going to heaven or hell as soon as the spermatazooa taps the ovum. Because anything else would be “relativism”– and Nooo we can’t have that! God is God. Human DNA = human immortal soul. The skin that sloughs off, the hair that is cut– all should be preserved and revered! Human immortal soul! in my fingernail clippings! Human immortal soul in my bowel movement! God please redeem me for all this Murder!

The religious right has taken over this country, and their world view is in control. Even IF you believe that life begins at conception there is no logical reason not to use cells from those lives which will not develop into a person anyway.

Angel, my mother has Alzheimers disease. It is NOT a matter of not taking care of herself, it is a slow horrible way to lose a parent. Stem cell research is the only real hope for any cure. I hope you don’t get faced with this dreadful disease in a parent or loved one. But if you do I guarantee you will be changing your mind very quickly. Ask Nancy Reagan.

Ask Bush. He wants to be our dictator as well as our Pope. Let his dad get Parkinsons and see if he changes his mind.
