What is Stem Cell Research? I need a definition of what it is in one paragraph for an essay i am doing?

Stem cells are base cells, they are like cell blanks. As we age, these cells are no longer blank, but rather become things like eyes, tissue, white blood cells /etc. The research is the process in which they are obtained, and how best to use them. Stem cells could, in theory, resolve most of our diseases and genetic illnesses.
The controversy is where we are currently getting them. Since these are new cells that have not been given a form, we can only harvest them from unborn fetuses. Whatever your views are on that, there are some studies now indicating a grown man could harvest them off his arm, or other existing cells.
