And why does the government need to invest in this? If this is so promising (and therefore would be profitable for the discovering company), why do we need to spend government money to fund it?

I might be wrong here, but aren’t stem cells collected from aborted fetuses (with the parents’ written consent)? The fetus is going to remain dead regardless of whether it’s used for research or incinerated/cremated. I fail to see how disposing of it is any better than using it for research. Can someone please explain to me why people are making such a big deal about it?
