Nope.<br />
They are taken from eggs fertilized in vitro in clinics, then donated for research purposes by consenting donors.<br />
A single blastocyst (3-4 day old hollow ball of cells) contains enough stem cells to generate millions of undifferentiated stem cells after a few short months of culturing.  Those millions of stem cells are capable of differientiating into a variety of adult cells and are, so far, one of the most promising treatments we have found for Parkinsons, spinal injury, stroke and a multitude of other deseases and injuries.<br />
So<br />
what&#8217;s the harm?<br />
